Review highlights
Based on 206 reviewsMonticelli consistently receives praise for its authentic Italian cuisine, distinguished by fresh, high-quality ingredients and expertly prepared dishes. Reviewers often highlight the restaurant’s impressive gourmet cheese and charcuterie selections, which underscore its dedication to genuine Italian flavors. The ambiance is noted as both upscale and relaxed, creating a refined dining experience complemented by excellent service. The extensive wine list and full bar enhance the overall appeal, catering well to a variety of tastes. Although vegetarian options are limited, they are thoughtfully crafted and well-received. The venue’s location in a prestigious area further reinforces its image as a top-tier Italian restaurant in Guatemala City, combining luxury with culinary excellence.
I recently visited a restaurant with the owner of my company. Upon entering, you're greeted by a rectangular display of their gourmet cheese, sausage, salami, and prosciutto. The freshness and quality of the display immediately give you the impression that this is a legitimate Italian establishment. They also have an aging cheese display, featuring approximately 30-40 cheeses with dates indicated on the shelves. Surrounding this aging room is an impressive array of shelves filled with different types of wines. I made a reservation prior to my visit, and the waiter escorted us to our table, which offered a view of the entire surroundings of wines and cheeses, with a patio behind us. We ordered the Risotto con Aragosta al Prosecco (around Q455), a burrata cheese pizza (the exact name escapes me, but it was around Q185), and lomito (around Q300)- all were spectacular. Capaccio and Pecorino used to be my favorite Italian restaurant in Guatemala, but Montecelli has now taken their spot. If you have a craving for Italian food in Guatemala, strongly recommended.
This is the place that made me fall in love with Italian food. For many years I always tried to avoid Italian food, it has never been my favorite and I never understood why people liked it so much. But let me tell you, Monticelli changed my mind. Italian food, as good, fresh and full of flavor like theirs is just amazing. You can taste the freshness and quality of ingredients, is definitely Italian food, not that Americanized version of Italian. The flavors are so well balanced, and perfect to combine with a bottle of wine. Will be back to try more dished and fall more in love with Italian food.
Lovely restaurant! Great quality ingredients. Fantastic wine. Relaxed yet upscale setting. Really enjoyed it. Limited but very good vegetarian options - burrata, cacio y pepe.
Excellent authentic Italian food, well prepared, excellent service and beautiful setup.
Located in the swanky zone 14 neighborhood, Monticelli sets a high bar for luxury Italian fare in Guatemala City Excellent ambiance and service, meet with spectacular ingredients and great cooking to create a simple but tasty menu. The wonderful dining experience is complemented by a full bar and a spectacular wine list. You can order ‘take away’ from the menu and a well stocked Deli, but I would recommend you try the whole Monticelli experience.
Monticelli is a total gem. Every single thing feels incredibly fresh — you can taste the quality in every bite. The energy, the service, everything is just on another level. They even have their own deli inside the restaurant, making the whole experience even more special. The pasta? Absolutely life-changing — hands down the best in Guatemala. And the burrata is a must — creamy, rich, and unforgettable. If you’re serious about great food, Monticelli is a place you simply can’t miss.
